HONG KONG - We are delighted to announce that Manchester United Soccer Schools will be delivering a coaching program in Hong Kong for the third successive year in 2006. Hong Kong is the only fixed facility of its kind in Asia for MUSS and has already seen over 1000 aspiring young football players take part in the last two years.
Manchester United first team player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said "I am delighted to be in Hong Kong to support Manchester United Soccer Schools. Whenever I have played in Asia I have always been amazed at the knowledge and enthusiasm that fans have for the Premiership game. It is so important for a great club like Manchester United to be offering quality coaching programs to young players around the world and particularly here in Hong Kong."
Operating out of Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, the MUSS program will run for 20 weeks with each session lasting 1 hour 15 minutes. Boys and girls aged from 8 to 15 years of all abilities will be coached by a team of MUSS UK Coaches and qualified local assistant coaches.
Rene Meulensteen, Reserve Team Manager and Skills Development Coach for the Academy added "It's always great to see the programs and philosophy we continually develop back in Manchester being made available to young players throughout the world. Part of my role is to ensure that all MUSS coaches deliver courses highlighting technical skills whilst emphasising the importance of personal development through practice and dedication."
The third year of the MUSS program in Hong Kong will focus on the development of players returning for a second and third season, whilst giving first time students an exciting introduction to soccer played "The United Way!"
Manchester United Soccer Schools are proud to announce that Airline of the Year 2006, Cathay Pacific will once again be the presenting sponsor and official airline for MUSS in Hong Kong. Charlie Stewart-Cox, General Manager Marketing for Cathay Pacific Airways, said "Cathay Pacific enjoys a great relationship with MUSS and we are very happy to be working with them once again to help the development of young people here in Hong Kong. Many Hong Kong children have a talent and genuine passion for football. Cathay Pacific is keen to help them pursue their dreams." Other programmes initiated or supported by Cathay Pacific on local youth development include the 'I Can Fly' programme, which incorporates aviation education with community service, and the Life Education Activity Programme, or LEAP, which promotes healthy lifestyles among young people.
In 2006 MUSS will be implementing a brand new course for talented young players in Hong Kong. The MUSS Development Squads will be carefully selected from the core program to recognise players who have achieved not only a high standard of play on the field, but also by their attitude and approach off the field. One of the development squads will travel to the UK in 2007 for the dream opportunity to test themselves against other MUSS international squads in Manchester.
Two players from the program will also win the chance to compete in the World Skills Final held in Manchester, with the opportunity to appear on the pitch at Old Trafford during a premiership match.
Manchester United Soccer Schools in Hong Kong is operated in conjunction with ProEvents Management Limited.
