HONG KONG - Congratulations to the second and final Hong Kong schoolboy from the Cathay Pacific sponsored Manchester United Soccer School selected to take part in the Premiership club's 2005 Grand Skills Final in Manchester.
Takuya Yamane, was named winner of the 8 to 11 years old category. He will be joining Tam Lok Hin (the winner of the 12 to 15 year age group) to Manchester for the skills finals, which will pitch against top young players from Manchester United Soccer Schools staged around the world. They will also have the chance to attend a Manchester United game at Old Trafford. The trip will be sponsored by Cathay Pacific.
Takuya and Lok Hin were ranked number-one in their respective age groups from over 600 young players who took part in the soccer school. They were scored on short passing, lofted passing, dribbling, control and shooting.
Takuya, who is currently 9 years old, started playing football when he was 6 and is playing midfielder in his school team - Japanese International School. His favourite team is Japan National Team and he likes Shunsuke Nakamura the most. This is the first soccer prize he has won.
Tam Lok Hin, aged 14, from St. Stephen's College, Stanley, was one of 50 youngsters to receive a Cathay Pacific Soccer Scholarships. He plays central midfield and his favourite player is Ryan Giggs (Manchester United). He currently represents Hong Kong at under-16 level.
About Manchester United Soccer School Hong Kong
Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) based at Old Trafford, has been in operation since 1999, MUSS launched classes last September with sponsorship by Cathay Pacific. MUSS Hong Kong provides the opportunity for young soccer players in Hong Kong to work with coaches from one of the biggest football clubs in the world. Two MUSS Coaching Directors and three assistant coaches will coach boys and girls from the age of 8-15 years old.
As well as receiving expert coaching, children will have their progress monitored regularly by specially adapted skills tests. At the end of each course, each participant will receive a certificate and a personalized coaching assessment. The programme is directed towards improving fundamental football skills with much emphasis on enjoyment and personal achievement.
Courses are 20 weeks in duration (1 session per week) with each participant playing in a group of around 20 other children of the same age.
