Liverpool FC Legends beat Dortmund in Hong Kong

HONG KONG - LFC Legends and BVB Legends met up in Hong Kong Stadium on a glorious Saturday afternoon for an entertaining exhibition match. A second-half penalty goal by LFC Legends’ Robbie Fowler proved to be the eventual match-winner, as the English side defeated BVB Legends through a 3:2 score.

 

LFC Legends wasted little time and took the lead on the 5th minute. Luis Garcia connected with a teammate’s free-kick delivery and sent a great header towards goal. BVB Legends goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller pulled out a superb save but could not stop LFC Legend’s Salif Diao from firing home the rebound.

 

BVB Legends almost tied the game on the 16th minute, as Jan Koller unleashed a cracking shot from outside the box but could not get past LFC Legends goalkeeper Sander Westerveld.

 

The German side finally equalized on the 20th minute, as Mo Zidan powered a BVB Legends counter-attack and picked out teammate Mladin Pertric with a fine pass. The latter buried his chance and fired the ball home, tying the game at 1:1.

 

LFC Legends quickly regained the lead after the game resumed, as Salif Diao dished out a sensational long-range lob-shot near the half-way line that found the back of the BVB Legends net, putting the English side in front 2:1.

 

In the 29th minute, LFC Legends’ Robbie Fowler broke behind the BVB Legends defense and fired away, only to witness his effort nicely saved by BVB Legends goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.

 

On the other end, BVB Legends went on to tie the game for the second time in the first-half, as Ewerthon buried a close-range shot and made it 2:2 for the German side.

In the second-half, the game remained a rather even affair.

 

On the 46th minute, LFC Legends’ Glenn Johnson took aim and sent a dangerous shot towards the BVB Legends goal, only to be denied by BVB Legends goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller. Dirk Kuyt rushed to the scene but drove the rebound to the side-netting.

It was still LFC Legends on the 52nd minute. This time, Salif Diao drilled a powerful shot from the top of the box but saw his effort brilliantly paved away by BVB Legends custodian Roman Weidenfeller.

 

On the 69th minute, a BVB Legends player committed a foul inside his own box and the referee duly awarded LFC Legends with a penalty. Robbie Fowler assumed the spot-kick duty and sent the ball into the net, putting LFC Legends in front 3:2.

 

The score stood towards the final whistle, as LFC Legends eventually defeated BVB Legends through a 3:2 score.
