Fatin & Zafirah Earn Hong Kong Trip

MALAYSIA - While many of her coursemates are busy hitting the books preparing for their term examinations, diehard Arsenal FC fan Fatin Shafira was busy proving her love and passion for the club.

However, her effort was worth every bit the sacrifice when she was announced as one of the two winners of the Super Gunner Challenge 2012, a contest held in conjunction with Arsenal FC’s Far East Tour 2012.

Having been an Arsenal FC supporter since the "Invincibles" era of 2004, Fatin was teary-eyed as she received her prize from ProEvents today. The moment was all the more special for the 22-year-old as not only has she earned herself a trip to watch Arsenal FC taking on Kitchee FC in Hong Kong, it will be the first time that the Kelantan lass will be meeting her idols.

"The first time I watched Arsenal players in the flash was when they came down to play last year. Even at that time I did all I could to get my hands on the meet-and-greet passes. So when I initially learnt that I had won the contest, I was in disbelief at first. I verified a few times first before celebrating the win. I’m still in a state of shock actually," said a notably ecstatic Fatin.

The UiTM Shah Alam student had spent one whole afternoon recording her Super Gunner Challenge entry. Fatin's said in her 15-second video basically conveyed the message that "I'll choose Arsenal over every other thing, anytime, any day".

"Since the organisers announced that Arsenal will be returning this year, I had been scouring for contests to take part in. For this, my friends and I brainstormed and come up with the idea. In the end, everything was worth it," said Fatin, adding that she would be taking her friend along to accompany her to the VIP area for the match at National Stadium Bukit Jalil on July 24th.

Meanwhile, for the other Super Gunner Challenge winner, Zafirah Zakaria, this will be her maiden trip to Hong Kong. The 24-year-old, the winner of last year’s’s Photo of the Year, is looking forward to meet players like Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker.

"I was lucky to have met the Arsenal players last year, but at that time these players weren’t part of the team. So, I can’t wait to rub shoulders with them!” Zafirah, who hails from Bandar Baru Bangi, said.

ProEvents Group chief executive officer Julian Kam was happy with the response the Super Gunner Challenge has generated, saying that “fans realise that this offers them the greatest opportunity for them to get close to the Arsenal players".

Kuala Lumpur - "If you don't shoot, you can't score." With this in mind, Abdul Hakeem Aiman Affandi gave it a shot and was rewarded when he was announced as one of the winners of ProEvents' Super Gunner Challenge.

"I had been dreaming about this moment ever since I started supporting Arsenal FC 12 years ago. I had always wanted to meet the players, so when I learnt about this contest, I jumped at the chance. I must thank ProEvents for organising something like this, which has given all Gooners in Malaysia an opportunity to meet their idols," said Abdul Hakeem.

The 24-year-old lawyer, who's an avid fan of hotshot striker Robin Van Persie, added that when he saw all the videos which had been submitted by fellow Gunners, most of them posed with their Arsenal merchandise. He then decided to do something different.

"I don't have that many Arsenal FC collectibles or merchandise. But I still wanted to show how much of a diehard fan I was. I did something I thought was the true meaning of a Super Gunner, which is to be willing to do anything for the club," said Affandi, whose 15-second clip shows him dressed up as an Arsenal superhero, fending off "criminals" who tried to get their hands on his ticket for the Arsenal FC vs Malaysian XI match at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil on July 24.

Not only has Affandi earned himself the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet his favourite Arsenal players, he has also won VIP Hospitality tickets to watch the team play here as well as a all-expense paid trip to Hong Kong, where he will watch Arsenal play Kitchee FC from the stadium's VIP Hospitality suite.

And that's not all.

Affandi and the other winner of the second round of the Super Gunner Challenge, Anis Adiba Othman, also won themselves a 4D/3N stay at a five-star hotel in Hong Kong as well as HK$5,000 in cash.

Anis, 23, was ecstatic upon learning that she'd finally be able to meet her football heroes.

"I can't wait to greet (Thomas) Rosicky and (Theo) Walcott here. All this time I've been either watching them on the telly or from the stadium stands. I've been supporting them since 2008 and saw them in the flash for the first time when they played Malaysia last year. No money can buy you prizes of this nature. Everything seems so surreal," said Anis, who will be flying to Hong Kong for the first time.
The winners of the contest's first round were Fatin Shafira and Zafirah Zakaria.

Julian Kam, chief executive officer of ProEvents Group – the exclusive organiser of Arsenal FC's Far East Tour, said more contests would be organised in the future following "the overwhelming response the Super Gunner had generated".

"We knew there were many diehard Arsenal fans in Malaysia and this contest showed that they were willing to go great lengths to meet their idols. ProEvents is glad to have been able to provide a platform for Gunners to realise their dreams. There will be more opportunities next time for fans to get such money-can't-buy experiences," said Kam.

Tickets for the match are priced at RM58, RM68, RM108 and limited VIP tickets at RM388. Tickets are available at all Ticketpro outlets nationwide, Ticketpro hotline 03-7880-7999 and
