THAILAND - Chelsea Football Club will be playing on Sunday, 24 July at the Rajamangala National Stadium after the first leg of their Asia tour in Kuala Lumpur on 21 July.
The Blues will then continue to Hong Kong where they will play in the Barclays Asia Trophy on 27 and 30 July.
Chelsea’s last visit to Bangkok was in 1997 and the team is delighted with the opportunity to meet their Thai fans as well as to play against the Thai Premier League All Stars in the Coke Super Cup next month.
Ron Gourlay, Chief Executive of Chelsea FC, said: "Chelsea is a long-term partner of the Asian Football Confederation on the Vision Asia project and we are keen to help in this region and to invest. Our Here to Play, Here to Stay campaign demonstrates that we are committed to the development of the game in the region.
"We are pleased to announce that we will be working with ProEvents on the Blue Pitch, our grass-roots football development project in Asia. The Blue Pitch in Hong Kong was our first in Asia launched in 2009, and yesterday we opened our first Blue Pitch in Kuala Lumpur with another one to follow shortly. We have plans for a Blue Pitch here in Bangkok, as well as rolling out others in Asia in the future.
"We are not just here to play a game and move on. This ongoing project will stay and Chelsea will continue to support grass roots football, working with top-class coaching schools to bring 'the Chelsea way' to Bangkok," Gourlay added.
"ProEvents are delighted to work closely with the club on the Asia Tour and bring more top-class football events to Asia. This will not only excite the local fans by being able to attend matches, but will also create opportunities for kids to experience professional football coaching in Chelsea's style," said Paul J Kam, Chairman of ProEvents Group, who is the sole and exclusive tour organiser of the Chelsea Asia Tour 2011 and partner of the Chelsea Blue Pitch project in Asia.
Mr Ong-Arj Korsinkar, Secretary of Football Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King (FAT), said: "This special football match, COKE SUPER CUP, makes it a very good opportunity for Thai football players to further develop their skills and allows football fans to watch world-class players in action who will come to play at Rajamangala National Stadium. One of the key objectives of this event is to commemorate the 84th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand in 2011, and to promote Thailand.”
Chelsea’s Here to Play Here to Stay campaign will also feature a fans’ communication programme encouraging all football fans to make contact with Chelsea by completing a specially-designed Chelsea Postcard and then drop it into the Chelsea post boxes. Those who fill in the postcard will have a chance to win a trip to London with match tickets to watch Chelsea in action at Stamford Bridge.
